(From the World Council of Credit Unions) – For the first time in the history of the World Young Credit Union Professionals (WYCUP) Scholarship program, recipients can choose between two all-expense paid education and networking events held on different continents.
WYCUP Scholarships will be awarded to credit union professionals 40 years of age and younger who recognize the potential for financial cooperatives to make the world a better place.
The WYCUP Scholarship includes airfare, hotel, and registration fees to attend one of the following events:
- The Sicredi Youth Summit, April 15-22 in Iguazu, Brazil
- The WYCUP Global Youth Summit and the 2023 World Credit Union Conference, July 21-27 in Vancouver, Canada
The Sicredi Youth Summit will bring together representatives from across an inspiring youth empowerment initiative at one of the world’s great natural wonders, Iguazu Falls. The power of collaboration is evident throughout Brazil’s Sicredi credit union system, which links more than 100 credit unions under a shared brand and technology platform. Scholarship recipients will experience the impact of community engagement and product innovation made possible through this unique model for cooperation.
The 2023 World Credit Union Conference (WCUC), co-hosted by World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU) and the Canadian Credit Union Association (CCUA), will feature renowned keynote speakers and more than 30 educational sessions geared toward solving global credit union challenges. And new for 2023, WCUC will also feature the first-ever WYCUP Global Youth Summit—designed to allow scholarship recipients to be at the center of our global movement and build new relationships with international peers during five full days of learning, networking and exchanges.
“The future of the global credit union movement rests on our ability to engage with youth,” said Elissa McCarter LaBorde, WOCCU President and CEO. “Our success as a sustainable and future-focused movement depends on emerging young leaders, and WYCUP is raising the voice of young people to ensure that they are part of the solution to help us address global challenges through the cooperative model.”
A Year’s Worth of Opportunities
Along with the choice of destination events, scholarship recipients will be able engage with their global peers during other virtual and in-person events throughout the year, as WYCUP explores opportunities for greater collaboration on shared global credit union challenges.
“Receiving the 2021 WYCUP Scholarship has opened doors for me both personally and professionally that I never knew existed,” said Sara Maharajh, Business Relationship Manager for CCUA. “Our network of like-minded, passionate young credit union professionals is strengthening our movement, one connection at a time, and without borders!”
