Given the success of last year’s Campaign for Ending Hunger $100,000 Challenge, the League is pleased to announce that we will be holding another 30-day challenge this June during for National Hunger Awareness Month. The Challenge will enable us to raise critical funds for Good Shepherd Food Bank as well as local food pantries and meal sites within your communities. The Challenge also will raise visibility for the Campaign for Ending Hunger, our signature social responsibility initiative. We hope your credit union will join us and use this as an opportunity to boost your credit union’s fundraising for the Campaign and contributions to your local food pantries.
Format for the 2021 Challenge
- The Challenge will kick-off on June 1 and run through the end of the month. Our goal is to raise $100,000 in 30 days.
- 100% of funds raised directly by a credit union will count toward that credit union’s 2021 Ending Hunger fundraising total and be available for the credit union to distribute back to their community.
- 75% of online contributions by or on behalf of a credit union will count toward that credit union’s 2021 Ending Hunger fundraising totals. The remaining 25% of online contributions will benefit Good Shepherd Food Bank. (This is the same formula we used last year.) Online contributions are those made through the Campaign’s website (https://campaignforendinghunger.org), including each credit union’s unique Campaign for Ending Hunger fundraising URL.
- The League will promote the Challenge in our digital outreach efforts and through earned media.
- All contributors to the Challenge will be recognized, and any businesses—including credit unions—that contributes $250 or more will have their logo featured on the Campaign for Ending Hunger’s website. If your credit union contributes at this level, please email your logo to Olivia Charron at ocharron@mainecul.org for inclusion on our website.
How Your Credit Union Can Help
- Your participation in and promotion of this fundraiser will be critical to our overall success. Please consider making a donation on behalf of your credit union. In 2020, 33 credit unions made direct contributions to the Campaign in support of the Challenge.
- This is a challenge! Credit unions should encourage their staff, vendors, and members to contribute to the Campaign and challenge them to challenge their family and friends. Your credit union can direct donors to the Campaign for Ending Hunger’s website, or preferably, to your own Campaign for Ending Hunger URL. Please contact Olivia Charron if you need assistance with your fundraising URL.
- If your credit union employees are not taking advantage of automatic payroll deduction for the Campaign, now is a great time to start!
- Credit unions should consider promoting the Challenge on their websites and social media pages. You can find customizable sample social media posts on the League’s website.
How the League Helps Your Credit Union’s Efforts
The League has developed several collateral pieces to help you promote the Challenge with your members, employees, vendors, and local food pantries and meal sites. These materials can be found on the Campaign for Ending Hunger Challenge page on the League’s website, https://mainecul.org/community-outreach/campaign-for-ending-hunger-100000-challenge/ and include:
- Member, employee, vendor, and community partner communications
- Sample social media copy and social media images
- Ending Hunger logos
- Ending Hunger Challenge lobby posters
- Ending Hunger fundraising ideas and children’s coloring sheets
You must be logged in to the League’s website to access these materials.
Maine Credit Unions’ Challenge
The League thought it would be fun to coordinate a challenge within our network. In addition to bragging rights, the credit union that raises the most money per member during the month of June will receive a $100 “bonus” in their credit union’s Ending Hunger account at the end of the year.
We hope you will support this important initiative. We always accomplish more when we work together!
