The University of Maine (UMaine) is gearing up for its annual Maine Day Meal Packout—an impactful, student-led effort that helps fight food insecurity across the state. This year’s event will take place on Wednesday, April 29 in Orono, and volunteers are essential to making it a success.
Last year, with the help of dedicated volunteers, more than 52,000 meals were packed and distributed to 19 food pantries in six Maine counties. Each meal box provides nutritious, shelf-stable food to families who need it most. This year, they’re striving to pack even more meals for Mainers in need—with 80,000 meals to be distributed as a result of this year’s event, taking UMaine over the 800,000-meal mark.
Get Involved: Volunteer on April 29
Whether you can give a full day or just an hour during lunch, your time will directly support Maine communities facing hunger. Volunteers help pack meal boxes that are quickly distributed to local pantries. This year, volunteers are needed after 11:00 am.
