The University of Southern Maine (USM) announced that University Credit Union (UCU) is the recipient of its 2020 USM Exceptional Community Partner Award. The annual award recognizes an employer partner or organization that goes above and beyond to support the University and its mission of academic excellence and accessibility.
“As USM’s longtime partner, UCU has championed our students’ aspirations in the classroom and on the athletic fields, and is strongly committed to the well-being of our campus communities,” said Glenn Cummings, President of the University of Southern Maine. “Recently, they made a donation to our critically needed Student Emergency Fund to help our students meet the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. We are proud to honor them with the 2020 Exceptional Community Partner Award.”
UCU has been a devoted community partner to the University for nearly two decades. Since 2007, UCU has contributed more than $155,000 to USM Athletics. Their financial assistance has supported many important initiatives including the construction of USM’s first all-weather playing surface at Hannaford Field.
Through its Campaign for Ending Hunger, UCU has sponsored a campus-based effort to raise funds for food pantries. In 2019, UCU donated more than $22,000 to food pantries on campuses throughout the University of Maine System, including USM. Additionally, the credit union has provided scholarships to USM students.
With a branch adjacent to its Portland campus and a campus branch in the Brooks Student Center in Gorham, UCU provides USM students with convenient, local access to financial services. In addition, their UCU affinity card program provides direct, ongoing support to the University of Southern Maine Foundation.
Congratulations UCU on this outstanding recognition!
