At TruChoice FCU, donating to local charities is as easy as swiping a credit card!
In 2024, $20,897 was donated to two organizations—The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital (via the Children’s Miracle Network) and the McAuley Residence—thanks to members utilizing their TruHero credit card. Since the card’s introduction in 2009, TruChoice FCU has donated $151,453!
The program is a unique way to encourage members to support local charities. TruHero cards even include the logo of the member’s chosen charity—an ongoing reminder of their TruHero status. With over 50% of TruChoice FCU credit card holders opting to become a TruHero, members drive the success of the program.
While cash back and rewards cards are available from many financial institutions, TruChoice FCU wanted to do something different to appeal to members. Allowing members to donate their rewards highlights the People Helping People philosophy of credit unions and strengthens ties to the local community.
As Ken Acker, CEO of TruChoice FCU, says, “Our TruHero card gives members an easy way to give back. They don’t have to manage individual donations; we take care of everything. All our members have to do is use the card—we take care of the rest!”
