Giving back to their communities is what credit unions do best. From Kittery to Caribou, you’ll find credit union employees volunteering their time and talent to nonprofit organizations. While they don’t lend a hand for the recognition, it is important for credit unions to track how much time their employees are providing. As part of the League’s advocacy strategy, we often share our outreach efforts with policymakers in Augusta and in Washington, DC.
“Whether they realize it or not, credit union employees carry out the People Helping People philosophy every time they volunteer to assist a local community-based organization or initiative,” said Jake Holmes, the League’s Financial Literacy Outreach Coordinator. “Tracking their efforts is important. We want to make sure their hard work doesn’t go unnoticed, especially by their state and federal representatives.”
The League has created an easy way for credit unions to track their employees’ volunteer hours. CUs Share for ME is a convenient tool hosted on the League’s website that enables credit unions to input volunteer information with just a few simple clicks.
“In the past, the League tracked volunteer hours using SurveyMonkey and faxed forms, but CUs Share for ME is the preferred way to collect this information moving forward, largely because of the simplicity of the tracking tool,” said Holmes. “If credit unions get in the habit of inputting this information on our website on a monthly basis, I’m confident they will find it doesn’t take much time at all.”
