Each year, Maine credit union employees and volunteers contribute thousands of hours in volunteer time to a variety of organizations and causes in communities across Maine. Ending Hunger, Special Olympics Maine, and the Humane Society are just a few examples. It is important to track these efforts to ensure we are effectively communicating how Maine credit unions carry out our People Helping People philosophy when speaking with the media, political leaders, and the general public.
To help the League quantify the volunteer efforts of our credit unions, the League encourages credit unions to complete a monthly reporting form using the CUs Share for ME program, hosted on the League’s website.
“The beginning of the year is a good time to remind credit unions about our CUs Share for ME program,” said Jake Holmes, League Financial Literacy Outreach Coordinator. “It only takes a few minutes to complete the form and the time is well worth it as it helps us communicate the credit union difference in our communities and to our members.”
In 2019, credit unions reported a total of 13,230 volunteer hours. According to the organization, Independent Sector, these efforts are worth approximately $336,457 in donated time.
CUs Share for ME forms should be submitted by the 10th of each month. If you have any questions about the CUs Share for ME program, email Jake Holmes, at jholmes@mainecul.org or call 207.773.5671, ext. 266.
