The League Joins The County FCU in Mourning the Loss of Darlene Grass


The League joins The County FCU in mourning their dear friend and colleague, Darlene Grass, who passed away on October 11. She served as the credit union’s Internal Auditor until just weeks before she passed from her illness, and was always positive, cheerful, and kind. Her colleagues will always remember the meaningful impact she made in their lives and the joy she brought to the credit union.

Darlene Grass

Fort Fairfield – Darlene J. Grass, 69, passed away Wednesday morning, October 11, 2023, at her Fort Fairfield home, with her family by her side, following an extended illness. She was born July 7, 1954 in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of Loomis and Anna H. (Lovely) Grass.

She was a graduate of the Fort Fairfield High School, Class of 1972 and attended the University of Maine at Presque Isle, where she earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Secondary Education, with a major in English and a minor in Music and social services. Darlene had been employed by Ames Department Stores as a National Training Manager for eighteen years, and later worked at Loring Job Corps in their Human Resources Department for twenty-three years. She most recently had been employed by the County Federal Credit Unions as an auditor until September 2023. Darlene had attended the Fort Fairfield Reformed Baptist Church, later the Fort Fairfield Wesleyan Church and most recently attended the Calvary Baptist Church, Westfield.

In addition to her parents, Darlene was predeceased by one brother, Cecil Lovely. She is survived by two sisters, Gloria R. Thurber of Denton, TX, Cheryl J. Grass of Fort Fairfield; nieces and nephews and spouses, Stephen and Bibbianna Thurber of Huntington, MD, David and April Thurber of West Hills, CA, Dale Thurber of Syracuse, NY, Lisa and James Perez of Justin, TX; as well as several great nieces and nephews. Darlene also leaves behind special family friends, Rev. Mel Norton and his wife Sandy, their daughter and son-in-law, Heidi and Neal Horner and children, Ella and Eden, all of Woodstock, New Brunswick, Mel Kent Norton and his wife Stephanie, Gregory Norton and daughters, Sophie, Kate Anna and Maggie all of St. John, New Brunswick, Tama and Jerry Palmer of Presque Isle, Brenda Dyer and the Argraves family, all of Fort Fairfield, as well as friends and co-workers from Ames, Job Corps and The County Federal Credit Union.
