James Mattila

The County FCU is pleased to announce that James Mattila has been promoted to Chief Operating Officer.

“We are excited to announce the promotion of James to this newly-created Chief Operating Officer position at The County,” said Ryan Ellsworth, President & CEO at The County FCU. “This strategic move underscores our commitment to succession planning, ensuring that our leadership pipeline is robust and capable of steering our organization well into the future. Furthermore, as we continue to experience significant growth and expand our services, the COO will play a critical role in enhancing operational efficiencies and driving innovative initiatives. This addition to our executive team aligns with our vision of providing exceptional value to our members and sustaining our competitive edge in the financial services industry.”

Mattila began his career at ATX as a sales professional in 1999. Before he left ATX in 2008, he had the top sales nationally for professional tax preparation and accounting software. From there, he transitioned to The County FCU as a member service representative in 2008. By 2016, Mattila had become The County FCU’s Vice President of Lending and has remained in that role until his recent promotion.

“I am eager to work with our team to execute the highest value for our members and fulfill our member promise,” said Mattila. “I appreciate being part of a team that truly has our memberships’ best interests at heart. I look forward to further developing new and exciting initiatives while maintaining the best-in-class service delivered by our kind, trustworthy, and knowledgeable team.”

Mattila attended CUNA Management School and graduated in 2019 as a Certified Credit Union Executive. He earned his bachelor’s in business administration from Husson University. He is currently the President of the Aroostook Chapter of Credit Unions and sits on the Caribou Economic Development Committee.

“James, as an internal candidate, brings a great perspective to this new position,” said Dan Bagley, Executive Vice President at the County FCU. “He has the experience we need combined with the drive we want in order to move The County forward in the best interests of our members. He is focused on the credit union mission of People Helping People, and we see him enact that mission every day. It’s a pleasure to promote from within and watch the development and growth of one of our own.”
