The County FCU is proud to celebrate 70 years of service to Aroostook County and communities across Maine. Originally organized as Loring FCU in 1956, The County has grown from a single-community institution into a statewide credit union with branches spanning from Bangor to Caribou.
“We are proud to be so deeply rooted in Aroostook County,” said Dan Bagley, Executive Vice President at The County FCU. “For 70 years, our focus has been on helping our members simplify their financial lives and make decisions that truly serve their best interests. That commitment is reflected in every interaction, every product, and every relationship we build.”
Over the past seven decades, the credit union has expanded through mergers, rebranding, and strategic growth—all while remaining deeply committed to the communities it serves.
“The County has always been connected to our communities, and we’re proud to celebrate 70 years of service,” said James Mattila, Chief Operating Officer at The County FCU. “To honor that long-standing relationship, we’re launching a new Commitment to Community initiative and will award mini-grants of $2,600 every other month to local nonprofit organizations. The amount of $2,600 is in honor of 2026 being our 70th year.”
The Commitment to Community initiative opened its application portal on February 10, 2026. Eligible nonprofit organizations must be committed to improving the quality of life in the communities they serve. By supporting meaningful projects, The County FCU aims to empower organizations that share its vision of service and progress and embody the credit union philosophy of People Helping People.
