This month, Credit Union Legislative Action Council (CULAC), is celebrating its 30th Anniversary. As part of the 30th Anniversary celebration, your League is participating in a $30 for 30th fundraising campaign. Credit union officials are encouraged to contribute $30 to CULAC by June 30th through an online portal.
Founded in 1975 by the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) to raise funds to support candidates and elected officials that support credit unions, CULAC has become one of the most successful Political Action Committees (PACs) on Capitol Hill. Your League was among the earliest supporters of CULAC back in 1975, and has frequently finished near the top of fundraising goals for CULAC since. The message and purpose by which CULAC was founded thirty years ago remains as relevant and important today.
"CULAC and Maine CULAC are both crucial to supporting and electing candidates and and elected officials at the state and national level. Because of our success with raising funds for CULAC and consistently meeting and exceeding our goals each year, we are able to support our federal candidates at the highest level. Additionally, CUNA has been able to have a high success rate in electing credit union friends to Congress and, with continued attacks from the banking community, having strong friends in Congress is more important than ever. The $30 for 30th Campaign is a way for Maine credit union leaders to support CULAC and all contributions count towards our state's 2015 Fundraising goal for CULAC," explained your League's President John Murphy.
