Steve Torino Joins the League and Synergent as New CISO

Steve Torino

The Maine Credit Union League and Synergent are pleased to announce the hiring of Steve Torino as our new Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). In his role, Torino will lead the development and execution of the Maine Credit Union League and Synergent’s security strategy, collaborating across teams to further strengthen our already robust policies, practices, and awareness. He will also play a key role in ensuring we stay ahead of emerging security trends and threats in a rapidly evolving landscape.

“We are delighted to have a familiar face join our organization,” shared Elise Baldacci, President of the Maine Credit Union League. “In his most recent role at Geels Norton, Steve worked closely with our team on numerous information security initiatives. He is coming into our organization with a great understanding of who we are, what we do, and the credit union difference. We look forward to collaborating with him and welcome his contributions as an information security expert.”

“We are thrilled to officially welcome Steve to our team,” stated Randy Stolp, President of Synergent. “As cyber threats continue to evolve in sophistication—including the increased use of AI by malicious actors—it has become critical for organizations of our size and complexity to have a dedicated executive leading our cybersecurity efforts. Appointing a Chief Information Security Officer gives us focused leadership at the highest level, ensuring strategic alignment and oversight, with direct accountability to both the executive team and our Board of Directors.”

Torino’s role strengthens Synergent’s ability to be both proactive and responsive in the cybersecurity space. His deep expertise and thought leadership will benefit not only our organizations, but also our credit union partners—who rely on us for trusted, forward-thinking technology, education, and operational support.

With over 20 years of experience in information technology and cyber risk management, Torino’s areas of expertise include identifying security threats, leading complex IT projects, developing and implementing robust security policies and procedures, creating comprehensive risk management strategies, and ensuring compliance with industry and government standards.

“I’m honored to join the talented and dedicated team of professionals at the Maine Credit Union League and Synergent,” stated Torino. “Having worked with the League and Synergent as a consultant, I’m thrilled to champion our shared belief in both the importance and strong business value of an effective information security program. I look forward to being a resource not only internally, but also to the greater credit union community in Maine and beyond.”

Most recently, Torino served as Director and CISO at consulting firm Geels Norton. Previously, he was the CISO for Cybersaint, where he built the company’s cybersecurity and risk management program from the ground up. He also held key roles at CI Security (now Lumifi Cyber) and Altius Systems, Inc.

Torino is a Certified Information Security Manager through ISACA and holds a Security+ certification from CompTIA. He is a graduate of Wheaton College in Norton, Massachusetts and is an active member of FBI InfraGuard, the IT Sector Coordinating Council, and ISACA.
