Sound Off Winners Announced!


With TV news cameras from across the State on hand to cover the announcement, Young & Free Maine and Maine's Credit Unions hosted yet another successful live audition for the 4th Annual Sound Off Music Competition last Friday, February 20. Five band and artist finalists gathered at Main Street Music Studios in Bangor to audition for their chance to win an amazing selection of prizes after entering in the competition on www.youngfreemaine.com and rallying for a public vote February 2-13.

Your League is happy to announce the 2015 Sound Off grand prize winner is Sassquatch. The grand prize consists of a $1,000 gift certificate to Main Street Music Studios and a spot to perform live at the 2015 Old Port Festival in June. Sassquatch is a five piece band with a blend of jazz, funk, rock, and indie music. All five members are students at the University of Maine at Augusta where they met.

The Banner Year, a four piece pop-punk band, scored first runner-up and will also be performing live at the 2015 Old Port Festival. Second runner-up, Adam Scott, solo singer/songwriter won a feature interview video to be published on the Young & Free Maine website. The Rotating Taps and Trendy Robots were Sound Off finalists and honorable mentions.

Three judges determined the winners based on appearance and style, quality of performance and sound, appeal to demographic, commitment to the contest, and overall performance. This year's judges included Andrew Clifford, owner of Main Street Music Studios; Mike Sturdee, Marketing Director at Bangor Federal Credit Union and resident rocker; and Nolan MacDonnell, member of the Skastitutes who were the 2014 Sound Off winners.
