Social Responsibility Committee meets

The Maine CU League's Social Responsibility Committee met via conference call this week to discuss a range of topics including the 2016 EH Campaign, the allocation of reward grants and other statewide initiatives.  The Committee unanimously approved the distribution of funds with all CUs receiving at least 100% of all funds raised in the 2016 Campaign back, and many CUs receiving more back than raised.  In addition, the Committee agreed that Ending Hunger Representatives will be recognized at Chapter Meetings in the spring.  "Ending Hunger representatives are such an important part of the Campaign's success because they coordinate, lead and organize various fundraisers throughout the year.  We used to recognize at Chapter Meetings, and the Committee agreed that returning to this practice was a worthwhile endeavor," stated Jim Lemieux, Chair of the League's Social Responsibility Committee.

Other topics discussed by the Committee included updated Gaming Procedures to help credit unions coordinate 'Take A Chance' raffles at their credit union.  "The ability to conduct raffles, both at the credit union level and statewide, is an important part of growing the overall Maine CUs' Campaign for Ending Hunger.  These updated procedures will ensure that the raffles are conducted in accordance to IRS regulations," remarked Jon Paradise, Vice President of Governmental and Public Affairs for the Maine CU League, adding, "In 2016, more than $65,000 was raised for ending hunger through raffles."

The Committee also discussed sponsorships for the 2017 Maine CU League Convention Golf Tournament for Ending Hunger, and is committed to reaching out to credit union partners for additional sponsorships.  "Since 100% of all sponsorships go directly to the Campaign, we are trying to increase sponsor support as much as possible," explained Paradise.

Finally, the Committee focused on having a successful Ending Hunger Results Luncheon on February 7, and then turning attention to the 2017 Campaign.  "We'll celebrate the 2016 Campaign, but work on the 2017 Campaign is already underway," said Paradise.
