With 2023 just around the corner, now is the time to look back and reflect on all of the good you did within your community this past year. Perhaps your staff spent time volunteering at your local animal shelter, packing food at Good Shepherd Food Bank, or collecting winter wear for your neighbors in need. While you think back on your credit union’s philanthropic efforts, ask yourself, “Did we track our volunteer hours through CUs Share for ME?” There’s still time to get those hours in!
It is important to record the full scope of your credit union’s volunteerism. Why? Reporting your volunteerism helps the League communicate the collective efforts our credit unions make to enhance their communities—whether to the media, elected officials, or the general public. As part of the League’s legislative advocacy strategy, we often share our outreach efforts with policymakers in Augusta and in Washington, DC.
It’s also important that the League has an accurate recording of our credit unions’ efforts, as the three credit unions with the highest volunteer hours will be recognized with an award at our Ending Hunger Celebration event in February!
Your credit union has until January 10 to report volunteer hours from 2022.
How do you report your efforts? With the CUs Share for ME online form, tracking your volunteerism has never been easier. With a few simple clicks, you can report your philanthropic efforts and help the League measure the collective impact our credit unions have within their communities.
How does the CUs Share for ME form work? Simply enter the name of your credit union, what month your staff volunteered, and how many staff members volunteered. After that, select the philanthropic effort(s) from the provided list and click “submit.” It’s that easy!
“Maine credit unions reported spending 13,980 hours volunteering last year,” said Jake Holmes, the League’s Financial Literacy Outreach Coordinator. “I’m always seeing our credit unions doing great things in their communities on social media or in their newsletters, so if everyone reports those efforts through the form, I’m confident we can surpass last year’s number.”
If your credit union needs assistance using CUs Share for ME, email Jake Holmes at jholmes@mainecul.org, or call him at 207.773.5671, ext. 266. Please note, you must be logged into the League’s website to complete the online form.
