Renee Ouellette Named UCU’s New President and CEO

The Board of Directors of University Credit Union (UCU) announced Renee Ouellette is the credit union’s new President and CEO, effective December 13, 2019. Ouellette is the first female president and CEO in UCU’s 52-year history.

With this transition, Ouellette takes the reins of one of the largest credit unions in Maine by membership and asset size. She will provide strategic leadership and oversight for UCU’s eight retail locations from Portland to Presque Isle, including three on-campus locations at the University of Maine in Orono, the University of Southern Maine in Gorham, and the University of Maine at Presque Isle, as well as the UCU Operations Center in Scarborough.

“My fellow board members and I are thrilled to welcome Renee to her new role, having worked alongside her and trusted her expertise for more than 10 years,” said Gerald Hayman, Jr., Chair of the UCU Board of Directors. “With this transition, we begin an exciting new chapter in UCU’s history. In addition, I wish to thank our Executive Vice President Deb White-Rideout for stepping in as interim president during the board’s extensive CEO search process.”

Ouellette is a Certified Public Accountant and highly skilled finance professional with nearly 25 years of experience, including the last 10 years at UCU, most recently as Senior Vice President of Finance. In addition to the CPA designation, she holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Husson College and an associate degree in business management from Eastern Maine Technical College. She is also a graduate of the Association of Management Information in Financial Services Comprehensive Performance Measurement School.

“I want to thank our Board of Directors for placing their confidence in me to lead UCU,” said Ouellette. “I am fortunate to be surrounded by a highly skilled and dedicated team who provides the very best service to our members. Together, we will continue building on our strong growth and effecting positive change in our communities around the state.”

Outside the office, Ouellette serves on the steering committee of the New England Financial Executives Council and volunteers on the boards of Special Olympics of Maine and the Bangor Chapter of Credit Unions. She is based out of UCU’s headquarters at 15 Main Street in Orono.
