PeoplesChoice CU’s Community Scholarship Program Now Accepting Applications


PeoplesChoice CU wants to strengthen Maine’s future through its Maine Merits Community Scholarship Program. The credit union will be awarding $6,000 in scholarships to qualified individuals in the following categories:

  • Community Leadership:  This award will be presented to a Maine college-bound high school senior, who in some unique and significant way contributes to his/her school or community as a leader. This would be a project or program that is not directly linked with the high school. Through demonstration of leadership, integrity, and respect, the applicant should share PeoplesChoice CU’s values of the community-driven spirit. The student must be intending to enroll in a Maine university, college or institution.
    • Scholarship amount:  $1,000
  • Entrepreneurial Spirit:  This award will be presented to a student at the University of New England. The student will be involved in development, research, and/or application of a business solution. The award will recognize a student who excels at public speaking, marketing, financial concepts, and organization.
    • Scholarship amount:  $1,000
  • Maine Business Growth:  This award will be presented to an area college student who demonstrates through GPA and a business development plan a dedication to further Maine business. The business development plan can be actual or aspirational.
    • Scholarship amount:  $1,000
  • Vocational Craftsmanship:  This award will be presented to a Southern Maine student pursuing training in a technical field. The scholarship will be awarded to a student that is accepted to a 2- or 4-year college, apprenticeship, post-secondary certificate program, or for a student entering the workforce in their field of study. The scholarship award can be used to purchase tools or equipment that support their initial entry into the workforce.
    • Scholarship amount:  $1,000
  • Volunteerism: This award will be presented to a college-bound high school senior in York or Cumberland County, who in some unique and significant way contributes to his/her school or community as a whole through volunteerism. It is meant to recognize those who might normally go unrecognized through traditional awards criteria. The award recognizes a student who has demonstrated collaboration, integrity, respect, and excellence from behind the scenes with a positive attitude and a willingness to help in whatever capacity necessary. 
    • Scholarship amount:  $2,000

Applications for each scholarship are available on PeoplesChoice CU’s website and must be submitted to the credit union by April 10. Winners will be announced on April 17.
