PeoplesChoice CU awarded twelve area students with scholarships at its annual member meeting on May 3, which took place at Biddeford High School’s Little Theater. The application pool was their most competitive yet, with many accomplished local students submitting thoughtful and impressive essays for qualification.
Through PeoplesChoice’s Maine Merits Community Scholarship Program, eight students were selected to receive the Ray Gagnon Community Service & Leadership Scholarship designed to honor high school seniors and college students in the counties of York, Cumberland, Androscoggin, Aroostook, Franklin, Oxford, Penobscot, Piscataquis, or Somerset. This scholarship recognizes those often overlooked by traditional awards, celebrating their integrity, respect, and quiet excellence demonstrated through collaboration and a willingness to serve.

Additionally, the Technical & Trade Scholarship was awarded to four students with impressive achievements. This scholarship recognizes Maine students committed to further training in a technical or trade field, such as plumbing, carpentry, electrical work, aesthetics, and more. It is awarded to a student accepted into a two or four-year college, an apprenticeship, a post-secondary certificate program, or directly entering the workforce in their chosen trade.
