NorState FCU’s Saves Pennies for a Cause

On February 13, NorState FCU will “spare some change” for three deserving organizations: St. John Valley Associates, Northern Aroostook Alternatives, and Central Aroostook Associations. These organizations assist adults living with special needs in Aroostook County by allowing their clients to contribute to their communities through volunteer work. Each organization will receive $2,000, money that was generated from fees collected by the credit union’s coin counter machines at its Madawaska, Presque Isle, and Fort Kent locations.

“It is wonderful that we are able to donate our coin counter service fees to recognize local charities in this very special way,” said Susan G. Whitehead, President and CEO of NorState Federal Credit Union.

NorState FCU members pay a 2% fee for using its coin counter machines and non-members pay a 6% fee. With the help of members and non-members alike, NorState FCU generated $6,000 in spare change in 2019 to donate back to the community.

“The caring and giving spirit of our communities and for those willing to give up a few pennies on the dollar for the credit union’s coin counter service, is a great way to express thanks and gratitude for all of the services that these three organizations offer the people of northern Maine,” said Whitehead.

In 2020, fees collected from its coin counter machines will be donated to eleven long-term care facilities in Aroostook County.
