NorState FCU is pleased to announce that it will be carrying on the legacy of the prestigious Cloukey Challenge, a golf tournament that has been raising funds to benefit Special Olympics athletes in Aroostook County. The tournament has long been an important event in the community, raising awareness for athletes and their achievements.
The credit union will maintain the tournament’s focus of generating dollars to support Special Olympics Maine’s year-round sports training, competition programs, and events for individuals with intellectual disabilities in Aroostook County. The credit union’s goal in incorporating this event as part of its golf scramble is to ensure it provides both competitive and recreational opportunities—all while creating a lasting impact in the lives of local athletes.
“We are honored to continue the Cloukey Challenge’s mission and carry on the legacy of supporting Special Olympics Maine in which all funds raised will directly benefit the athletes of Aroostook County,” said Danielle Hebert, NorState FCU Director of Community Engagement. “This tournament has played an important role in raising funds and awareness for an extraordinary cause, and we look forward to growing this event and reaching new milestones for the athletes it supports.”
The tournament will take place over two days at two different golf courses. On Friday, July 11, the first game of play will be held at Long Lake Golf Course in St. David. On Saturday, July 12, golfers will play at the Mars Hill Golf Course. Golf registration forms and sponsorship opportunities will be made available in the coming weeks.
“We are grateful to Rene Cloukey and the former organizers and volunteers of the Cloukey Challenge for their dedication to this cause over the past 35 years,” Hebert continued. “Our NorState team is committed to continuing the tournament’s legacy and furthering the mission of Special Olympics Maine through this impactful event.”
