Nominate a Colleague for the Diane L. Oceretko People Helping People Award

Throughout the nomination period for the League’s 2025 awards program, we will feature an award category to help credit unions identify individuals who are deserving of a special honor. There is no better way to demonstrate your appreciation for someone special at your credit union than by nominating them for a League award.

Maine’s credit unions believe in the power of service and community. Every day, our employees make a difference—not only for our members but also in the neighborhoods where we live and work. To honor those who embody our core values of compassion, dedication, and selflessness, the League will present the Diane L. Oceretko People Helping People Award to a deserving credit union team members in May.

This special award recognizes an outstanding individual from within Maine’s credit union movement who consistently goes above and beyond to serve their community and help those in need. Whether through volunteering, organizing charitable initiatives, or simply making a positive impact in the lives of others, this individual exemplifies what it means to truly give back and carry on the memory of Diane L. Oceretko, a long-time Midcoast FCU employee and member of the League’s Social Responsibility Committee.

To recommend a special person you know, please visit the League’s website to complete a nomination form by March 14. You should include the following details with your submission:

  • A list of all volunteer and community service organizations that the individual is involved with and approximate years of involvement.
  • Describe why you feel the nominee should receive the award.
  • Additional materials (not required) in support of this nomination such as articles, photos, recognition, and/or relevant materials and information.

At the 2024 Convention Awards ceremony, Community CU’s Christine Wilson was recognized with this prestigious honor. In her nomination of Wilson, Community CU CEO Jennifer Hogan shared, “Christine takes a lot of pride in her work and sees her role as an opportunity to help people and truly make a difference in their lives. Her empathetic approach in working with members allows them to recognize the credit union as a true partner and not just a financial institution that wants them to pay their loans on time.”

If Wilson’s description sounds like someone you know, we encourage you to take a moment to recognize that inspiring individual by submitting your nomination today. The League also hopes you will join us at our awards presentation on Friday, May 16 at the 87th Elevate: Annual Meeting & Convention.
