Fraud prevention has long been a top priority for both the League and Maine’s credit unions. Our awareness efforts target credit union staff and the public alike—sharing the latest information, tips, and resources through our fraud prevention resource centers, blogs, videos, and more. We encourage your credit union to share these tools with your members to support the fight against fraud.
To assist with your outreach efforts, the League has created a new fraud awareness video—now available for your credit union to share on social media and/or your website. Inspired by a discussion during our most recent League-led Fraud Call, the video highlights one simple but effective tip to help safeguard handwritten checks: using the right type of pen.
Dye-based ink is easier to alter and may leave checks more vulnerable to fraud. Encouraging members to use a permanent, gel-based pen is a small but important step they can take to better protect their information, their money, and their peace of mind.
