Fraud is an ever-present threat, and protecting members from scams remains a top priority for both the League and Maine’s credit unions. To support your outreach efforts, the League has created a brand-new fraud awareness video—now available for your credit union to share on social media and/or your website.
The video introduces a simple, memorable acrostic people can use before taking action when faced with a potential scam, helping them avoid the costly impacts of fraud:
(S) Stop and think before you act. Urgency is a warning sign of a scam. Don’t rush—scammers pressure you to act quickly and make payments without taking the time to think the situation through.
(C) Confirm the source. Verify who’s really contacting you—through trusted numbers or websites.
(A) Avoid sharing personal information. Never provide personal information like your birthday, Social Security number, or mother’s maiden name in response to a call, text, or email—especially if it’s unsolicited.
(M) Monitor your accounts regularly. Check your statements and online and mobile banking often for suspicious activity.
Please feel free to share this video with your members to help them keep their personal and private information out of the hands of bad actors. You can also display this poster in your lobbies, which features the helpful acrostic included in the video.
