New Fraud Resources Available for Credit Union Use

With the constant uptick in fraudulent activity, our League is dedicated to keeping an eye on the most used and newest scams across our state and within our industry to help keep your credit union and your members safe from loss. As part of this, we frequently create collateral for your credit union to utilize on our Fraud Prevention Resources hub.

If you are not familiar with the hub, it houses everything from a breakdown of types of scams to tips on recognizing red flags, articles and blog posts, industry resources, ready-to-use social media collateral, and more.

Just this week, our League developed both a blog and social media assets specific to hotel fraud. Scams involving hotel stays are becoming more popular, and we want to ensure you and your members are armed to protect yourselves against these malicious attempts to steal information. Under the Collateral and Social Media Assets tab in the Fraud Prevention Resources hub, you will find a section titled Hotel Scams – Social Media Posts containing both graphics and copy for your credit union to share on your social media channels to spread awareness of these scams. Three draft posts and the associated graphics have been created for Facebook, Instagram, and X.

Additionally, we encourage you to share this Financial Literacy Blog to disperse more detailed information about hotel fraud to your members. The Maine Credit Unions’ website and the Financial Literacy Blog are designed with your members and the general public in mind, and both contain ample valuable resources aimed at improving members’ financial well-being.

If your credit union runs into any issues related to fraud, has questions, needs assistance, or would like to share an encounter where an employee successfully identified fraud and helped protect a member, we hope you will contact our League. Our credit unions are our top priority, and we are here to help you every step of the way.
