Fraud and scams targeting older adults continues to rise in popularity at an alarming rate, increasing financial risk for many vulnerable individuals. Credit unions are uniquely positioned as trusted financial institutions to help members recognize, prevent, and respond to fraud attempts exploiting members and their loved ones. With Elder Abuse Awareness Month on the horizon for June, including World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on June 15, our League has collaborated with the credit union league system to create ready-to-use materials for your credit union to promote throughout the month to raise awareness of elder financial exploitation.
On the League’s website, you will find collateral developed to help credit unions strengthen their efforts to combat elder financial fraud through member education, staff preparedness, and community awareness initiatives. These materials can be incorporated into member communications, employee training programs, and outreach engagements.
Together, credit unions can help safeguard the financial well-being of the members and communities they serve.
