The Love Your Community project, commonly known as The LYC, is all about Northeast Credit Union’s (NECU) commitment to celebrating and supporting people who are doing good things in their community.

In recent years, The LYC Project has held several events and contests to recognize outstanding community members. One of the project’s flagship events is the Nice Catch – Celebrating Kind Kids Contest. In partnership with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats and Portland Sea Dogs Minor League baseball teams, over 200 kids from Maine and New Hampshire were nominated by teachers, coaches, friends, and family members because they consistently went above and beyond to make their communities a kinder place.

Twelve winners were selected over the summer. One of the winners, 16-year old Isabel Povey from Pinkerton Academy, is dedicated to fighting hunger in her community and around the globe. In 2018, she started her own program called Seeds of Hope. Through Seeds of Hope, Isabel provides vegetable seeds to less fortunate families and children all over the world. In August, Isabel, along with Nice Catch winner Jack Wagoner of Dover, enjoyed a day of baseball at the Fisher Cats Stadium.

NECU also just completed its first Teachers Who Wow recognition program. Through this initiative, NECU asked community members to nominate hardworking teachers who inspire their students, peers, and community. Winners received a Visa gift card to supplement classroom supplies or other needs.

“The Love Your Community project is simply our way of giving back to the kind and caring people in our communities,” said Timothy Collia, President and CEO of Northeast Credit Union. “This project allows us to support organizations and interact with the people who devote their time to making our communities welcoming places. We believe that by setting a positive example, others will be inspired to love their communities as well.”
