March Credit Union News & Events


Spring has sprung our credit unions into action. They have been giving their time to the local communities they love to support. From Ukrainian relief efforts to the continued fight against hunger in Maine, staff showed up for those in need. Here is a snapshot of just some of what our credit unions accomplished this month.

  • Acadia FCU began collecting shelf-stable donations as a part of the Maine Tourism Association’s From Maine to Ukraine effort to ship food, household items, and pet products overseas to Ukrainian refugees in Poland.
  • Atlantic FCU shared information for graduating high school seniors regarding the 2022 Atlantic College Scholarship. They will be awarding $20,000 total in scholarships.
  • Bangor FCU encouraged members to pick up a Bloomin’ 4 Good bouquet at the Brewer Hannaford location. For every bouquet sold throughout the month of March, $1 went to the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • Brewer FCU shared information about the annual Ton of Pasta drive at the Hogan Road Hannaford held by Penquis and Townsquare Media.
  • The annual yard sale benefitting Special Olympics is coming back at Capital Area FCU and they began accepting donations. 
  • Employees of Casco FCU visited the Standish Food Pantry to drop off their annual donation. This year, they gave $4,250 as a result of donations from members, business partners, and staff.
  • Partnered with Amy Bryson of Bangor and Anna Stasiv of Portland, Changing Seasons FCU began collecting monetary and medical donations to support the wounded in Ukraine.
  • Volunteers from Community CU assisted the parking crew at the Turner Ridge Riders’ 21st Annual One Lunger 100 Vintage Snowmobile Race.
  • The first fundraiser of the year at Connected CU was a huge success, as they donated over $1,000 to the Maine Children’s Cancer Program.
  • The employees at cPort CU showcased their team spirit during their spirit week with fun themes like Twin Tuesday, Throwback Thursday, and more!
  • Cumberland County FCU treated their staff with goodies on March 4 for Employee Appreciation Day to thank them for all they do.
  • Dirigo FCU raffled off four tickets to the opening weekend of the Portland Sea Dogs.
  • Throughout the month of March, Downeast CU branches collected nonperishable school lunch foods and snacks to donate to local food pantries.
  • Eastmill FCU shared information in their newsletter for high school seniors about their scholarship program.
  • Evergreen CU held their annual meeting on March 24 to review 2021.
  • Five County CU was a proud sponsor of Power Hour at the Cares for Kids Radiothon on Frank FM and 99.9 The Wolf from March 10-12, matching donations to help the kids at The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital at Maine Medical Center.
  • Tracie and Connie from Gardiner FCU served at Meals on Wheels at the end of March as a part of the credit union’s continued effort to send two volunteers to help for two hours every Tuesday.
  • It’s official! Great Falls Regional FCU shared the news that Monmouth FCU members agreed to merge into Great Falls Regional FCU, joining two strong credit unions to benefit both fields of membership.
  • Infinity CU showed love for local small businesses during Maine Restaurant Week. They chose five winners at random to receive a $50 gift card to Mister Bagel, OTTO, Geaghan’s Pub & Craft Brewery, Down Home Café, or CERA.
  • KV FCU shared their 2021 annual report.
  • Lincoln Maine FCU began a silent auction for a king-sized quilt. Earnings go towards the credit union’s scholarship fund.
  • Scams are everywhere nowadays, so Lisbon Community FCU posted numerous tips on Facebook throughout the month to help members avoid them.
  • Maine Savings FCU’s Ellsworth branch began their Easter raffle that supports the Maine Credit Unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • Maine State CU announced that Stephen Wallace, the current Executive Vice President, will be promoted to President and CEO of the credit union when Tucker Cole retires this summer. Congratulations, Stephen!
  • Liza and Kathy from Midcoast FCU gave their time at the Bath Area Food Bank.
  • Monmouth FCU shared news of promoting Charlene to Branch Manager. Congratulations, Charlene! She has been with the credit union since 2005. With the merger being finalized with Great Falls Regional FCU, they want to remind members that the same friendly faces will be available to assist with any and all needs.
  • To celebrate the upcoming Easter holiday, New Dimensions FCU started selling Bunny Bucks for $4. The purchase includes an Easter card, an envelope, and Bunny Bucks for littles to enjoy. Proceeds benefit the Campaign for Ending Hunger and Special Olympics.
  • Northeast CU recognized the #WomenOfNortheastCU all month long on social media with this hashtag, sharing advice from the various female employees of the credit union for Women’s History Month.
  • On March 6, NorState FCU held a Snowshoe Trek in support of the Campaign for Ending Hunger.  
  • March 3 marked Soup Day for Ending Hunger at OTIS FCU. Soups, chowders, chilis, baked goods, and beverages were available alongside suggested donations for the Campaign for Ending Hunger. All together, they raised $583.50.
  • Oxford FCU collected donations in their Norway and Mexico branches. A donation of at least four items or more from the list they provided entered individuals into a drawing for four Sea Dogs tickets for opening weekend.
  • Scholarship opportunities are now available for high school senior members at Penobscot County FCU.
  • PeoplesChoice CU is matching up to $2,500 in donations to support the Ukrainian people during this time of need.
  • Sabattus Regional CU shared their fourth place award with members for the most dollars raised per member for the Campaign for Ending Hunger in 2021.
  • Saco Valley CU’s 2022 scholarship application period opened.
  • Seaboard FCU posted budgeting tips on social media to help members plan for the future.
  • The County FCU kicked off their spirit week with a bang! Themes include Mix and Match Monday, Travel Tuesday, and other fun categories.
  • As part of their continued Local Helping Local initiative that started in March of 2020, Town & Country FCU gave away a $500 gift card to a local small business.
  • Earlier this year, long-time Trademark FCU member Walter and his wife experienced a devastating house fire, resulting in extensive damage to the home they lived in for 25 years and raised three children in. The credit union began collecting monetary donations to support the couple in the spirit of People Helping People.
  • TruChoice FCU raised awareness of donation scams that pose as relief efforts for those in Ukraine.
  • Senior Member Service Representative Sarah from University CU volunteered at Wayside Food Programs in Portland. Sarah spends time at Wayside twice monthly to help prepare meals.
  • Winthrop Area FCU pulled Terry Pelkey as the winner of their St. Patrick’s Day Pot of Gold raffle.
