Maine Legislature Elects New Leaders

With the election in the rearview mirror, the incoming legislators of the 130th Legislature already have begun their work. Even though they won’t be officially sworn into office until December 2, they have chosen their leaders for the upcoming Legislature.

Senate Leadership

  • Troy Jackson – Senate President
  • Nate Libby – Senate Majority Leader
  • Eloise Vitelli – Assistant Majority Leader
  • Jeff Timberlake – Minority Leader
  • Matt Pouliot – Assistant Minority Leader

House Leadership

  • Ryan Fecteau – Speaker of the House
  • Michelle Dunphy – Majority Leader
  • Rachel Talbot Ross – Assistant Majority Leader
  • Kathleen Dillingham – Minority Leader
  • Joel Stetkis – Assistant Minority Leader

The League is pleased that the ten, newly elected leaders all are League-endorsed candidates.

“The League has long believed in the importance of endorsing credit union-friendly candidates,” said Robert Caverly, League Vice President of Governmental Affairs. “To have every member of legislative leadership be a friend to Maine credit unions is significant and a positive step for our movement. This isn’t to say that credit unions will get their way on every matter that comes before these leaders, but we know that our voices will be heard. Given that this will be one the most challenging legislative sessions in recent memory, this is very important.”

Because of the ongoing pandemic, the 130th Legislature will need to modify many of the traditions and protocols that drive the Maine Legislature. These modifications will be largely decided upon by the newly elected leaders, especially the Senate President and the Speaker of the House.
