Your League is honored to have a Maine credit union representative among a select group of witnesses who will present testimony before the United States Senate Special Committee on Aging. As a result, in part, of the previous work of your League and Maine’s credit unions on elder financial issues, Senator Susan Collins, who Chairs the Senate Committee on Aging, and her staff, asked your League to provide a witness from Maine’s credit unions to testify before the Committee for a hearing on How Prepared Americans are for Retirement.
Because of his strong experience on human resource issues including benefits such as 401k, your League asked Rob Carmichael, Senior VP of Human Resources at Maine Savings FCU, if he would present testimony before the Committee. Carmichael is active on HR issues in Maine as a member of the Maine CU HR Council and serves on the Executive Committee of the CUNA HR Council. On Thursday, March 12, Carmichael will appear before the Committee as one of four witnesses testifying on this issue. In his remarks, Carmichael will discuss the ways in which his credit union helps its employees prepare financially for retirement.
“We appreciate the opportunity to have the Maine credit union perspective as small to medium employers represented before the Committee. It is an honor to have Senator Collins recognize the efforts and leadership of Maine’s credit unions on elder financial issues facing older Americans by asking us to appear before her Committee. Rob brings a wealth of experience and perspective as a witness, and is an outstanding choice to represent Maine’s credit unions on this issue before the Committee,” stated your League’s President John Murphy.
Carmichael said he is excited to testify before the Committee and applauds Senator Collins for bringing increased attention and focus to this important issue. “Helping to ensure that people are financially secure in retirement is very important, and I welcome the opportunity to be part of that conversation,” said Carmichael.
The hearing begins at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, March 12, and will be streamed live. To hear the entire Hearing and testimony as it happens, click here.
