Maine Credit Unions Put Gray-New Gloucester/Raymond Little League Team Over Their Fundraising Goal with Donation

Maine Credit Unions donated $2,500 to the Gray-New Gloucester/Raymond Little League All-Stars on Wednesday to put the team over their fundraising goal of $70,000. With a dramatic win on August 10, the team became only the fourth team from Maine to qualify for the Little League World Series, which is held each year in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

“Maine’s 49 credit unions are extremely proud of the Maine All-Stars and the season they’ve had,” commented Cris Wescott, Interim CEO for the Maine Credit Union League. “We’re thrilled to be able to help the team and their families get to Williamsport to watch their kids play.”

Representing New England, the Gray-New Gloucester/Raymond team lost in its first game to a team from Seattle out of the Northwest Region. Gray-New Gloucester/Raymond now will face the Mid-Atlantic champions from Media, Pa. in an elimination game on Saturday at 2 p.m. on ESPN

The team’s GoFundMe page says it could cost as much as $5,000 per family if the team reaches the Little League World Series final. The team says, “In the event that we don’t go all the way or can’t use all the funds raised, we’ll put the extra dollars into building and growing our league.”

Individuals and organizations can contribute to the team’s fundraising at this GoFundMe link.

The donation from Maine Credit Unions is in addition to other generous donations made by individual credit unions in Maine.
