Local Organization Offers Homebuyer Education

While the process of buying a home can be exciting, it can also be stressful and overwhelming—especially for first-time buyers. For many, participating in a homebuyer course before closing can prevent the American dream from becoming a nightmare.

A Maine organization, hoMEworks, operates as a nonprofit group dedicated to providing homebuyer education—believing the best place to start the buying process is in the classroom. Their courses overview every component of the process, such as budgeting and credit scores, shopping for a mortgage, working with real estate agents, making offers, getting inspections, closing, and more!

Whether your credit union’s staff or members are looking into purchasing home, everyone can benefit from a comprehensive homeownership program. Taught by industry professionals (home inspectors, real estate agents, etc.), the classes prepare buyers for what will likely be the biggest purchase of their life. Certificates of course completion, which are often required for assistance programs, are also valid for two years.

In-person hoMEWorks classes are available across the state, but participants can also attend an online course.
