Federal government workers in Maine are feeling the impact of the government shutdown where it hurts most – their wallets. The financial strain from not receiving a paycheck can certainly take a toll on individuals and families. Fortunately, Maine’s credit unions stand ready to help. Many credit unions are offering special programs and low-interest loans for government employees.
The Portland Press Herald’s Craig Anderson published an article on Thursday highlighting some of the assistance Maine’s credit unions are providing to their members. CUNA is also working to capture what credit unions are doing at the state level to lend a hand. If your credit union is offering special assistance to federal employees, please contact Jen Burke at the League to let us know how you are helping your members through this difficult time.
