On Tuesday, the Legislature issued a joint resolution acknowledging April as Fostering Financial Education Month. The resolution, offered by Senator Matthew Pouliot, highlights the importance of providing opportunities for students to learn how to effectively manage, save, and invest money.
The resolution also recognizes the Maine Credit Union League, and other organizations like the Finance Authority of Maine and Maine Jump$tart Coalition, for their work providing financial education and resources to Maine youth.
Earlier this month, Governor Mills signed a bill, L.D. 283, requiring Maine schools to teach personal finance in grades K – 12. These legislative actions help to amplify the importance of educating students about money management.
