On April 24, over 100 credit union professionals joined the League’s Town Hall meeting featuring Jilenne Gunther, National Director of AARP’s BankSafe. Gunther provided an overview of the online, interactive training program—offered at no cost to credit union employees—which provides frontline staff with education on how to identify and prevent financial exploitation. She also shared the results of recent research conducted by the Virginia Tech Center for Gerontology that demonstrates the positive impact this training program has had on staff at financial institutions, as well as their members/customers.

If your credit union is interested in signing up for the BankSafe program, register online at AARP’s website. Credit unions who participate can apply to have AARP verify that at least 80% of their frontline staff successfully passed the BankSafe training and receive a seal from AARP. The seal is good for one year and recognizes the credit union’s commitment to fighting exploitation.
