At last week’s CUNA Awards Reception in Washington, DC, the Maine Credit Union League took home top honors, receiving a first place recognition for the Desjardins Youth Financial Education Award.
The League and Maine’s credit unions were recognized for their financial education initiatives. In addition to highlighting how Maine’s credit unions and the League host financial fitness fairs across the state, CUNA recognized what has been done to emphasize the importance of financial education in the news. CUNA noted our record-setting media coverage, which included 15,060 minutes of airtime in Maine – 344 more minutes than the previous year.
Community CU also received an award, earning a second place finish in the Desjardins Adult Financial Education Awards category for a credit union with less than $50M in assets. CUNA recognized how Community CU promotes financial literacy through printed publications, online channels, and when members open a new account. CUNA also highlighted the credit union’s outreach to its community’s immigrant population.
Oxford FCU was awarded an Honorable Mention in the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award category for a credit union $50M – $250M in assets. Oxford FCU was recognized for its work helping Oxford Middle School open a food pantry to reduce local food insecurity.
