Staff at the MaineHealth Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital believe all kids, whether they are in the hospital or not, deserve a chance to attend a Maine summer camp. To bring the magic of camp directly to their patients and families, the hospital hosts Camp Week—a special time filled with activities, games, treats, and more!

On August 29, League staff represented Maine Credit Unions at Camp Week, hosting a special luncheon featuring traditional “camp food” including hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, and sweets. Lunch was provided to patients, their families, and the medical staff who take such good care of some of Maine’s most vulnerable patients.

“It was such a joy to spend time at the hospital and help bring smiles to patients’ faces,” shared Jen Burke, League Assistant Vice President of Communications & Outreach. “My family benefited from the tremendous care the hospital provides when my daughter was a baby and it was very meaningful to give back in this special way. I know I speak for our entire team when I say how grateful we are to have such an exceptional facility in our backyard. The MaineHealth Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital has and will continue to support families across the state in their time of need.”

Before League staff departed the hospital, they provided MaineHealth with a $5,000 donation. The donation was provided by the Illinois Credit Union League to recognize the Maine League’s participation in #ILoveMyCreditUnion Day.

“Providing our local Children’s Miracle Network hospital a check to advance their important work was an added bonus to a great day,” shared Burke. “The generosity extended to us by our colleagues in Illinois will go a long way to help pediatric patients and their families.”
