Last week, Ellen Parent, the League’s Director of Compliance, sat on a panel hosted by Maine’s Office of Cannabis Policy. The panel focused on banking cannabis-related businesses and was moderated by John Hudak, the Director of the Office of Cannabis Policy. The panel also featured Brookings Institute Fellow Aaron Klein.
The panel explored questions about the legal and regulatory framework surrounding cannabis banking. The panel discussed subjects such as the likelihood of federal cannabis banking reform, regulatory issues faced by credit unions looking to bank cannabis businesses, the costs of compliance, and the steps that may be taken to improve the banking of the cannabis industry.
