League Awards Spotlight: John G. Murphy Rising Star Award

Throughout the nomination period for the League’s 2025 awards program, we will feature an award category to help credit unions identify individuals who are deserving of a special honor. There is no better way to demonstrate your appreciation for someone special at your credit union than by nominating them for a League award.

It’s not a secret—especially within our industry—that credit unions are remarkable. From astounding care for community to meeting members’ needs in exceptional ways, credit unions provide fundamental services while maintaining humanity and humility. Of course, credit union staff—from tellers all the way through senior leadership—are what contribute to the special success of credit unions as pillars in their communities. Every person plays a pivotal role in uplifting those they serve, no matter how long they have called the credit union industry “home.”

The League hopes you will help us recognize this excellence within your credit union by nominating a deserving peer for the second annual John G. Murphy Rising Star Award. This award, introduced during the annual awards ceremony at last year’s League Convention, was created to celebrate one individual within the first eight years of their credit union career that is passionate about and dedicated to advancing Maine’s credit union movement.

Nominators can complete the form on the League’s website by March 14 to submit a qualified coworker for consideration. Nominations should include qualities about the individual’s personal character, leadership style, unique accomplishments/acts of service, and contributions to their credit union. Please feel free to reference the best practices guidelines to further assist in pulling together a nomination.

Last year, the inaugural award was presented to Dustin Graham, Branch Manager at The County FCU. His manager, Dennis Rogeski, Retail Services Manager, submitted Graham for the award largely because of his constant kindness towards others and his drive to go the extra mile, even for those not directly reporting to him.

Submitting your peers for the John G. Murphy Rising Star Award is a perfect way to show your appreciation for their efforts within our great industry. The award will be presented on Friday, May 16 at the League’s 87th Elevate: Annual Meeting & Convention with the other annual awards.
