League Announces Endorsements for Congress

The League is pleased to announce its endorsements of U.S. Representatives Chellie Pingree (D) and Jared Golden (D) for Congress. As strong credit union advocates, the League believes Representatives Pingree and Golden will continue working to ensure Maine’s credit unions have a voice in Washington, DC.

Representative Pingree has a long history of welcoming credit union representatives to her offices in both Maine and DC to discuss issues that impact our members. Her continued support for legislation clarifying the rules surrounding marijuana banking has been helpful as credit unions navigate this emerging field.

Representative Golden has proven to be a strong supporter of credit unions in his inaugural term. He welcomed the input of credit union members and employees for his work on the Small Business Committee. This committee was helpful to credit unions at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

As part of the endorsement process and recommendation to the League’s Board of Directors, the League’s Government Affairs Committee spent the summer months researching the candidates, analyzing their track records for supporting credit union issues, and assessing their relationships with local credit unions. The League did not consider party affiliation when making its endorsement decision and has a long history of endorsing candidates on both sides of the aisle.
