Krista Simonis Joins Maine Credit Union League as Director of Governmental Affairs

The League is pleased to announce it has hired Krista Simonis as its new Director of Governmental Affairs. As a member of the League’s Advocacy and Outreach team, Simonis will lead efforts to advance the League’s legislative, political, and advocacy agendas in both Augusta and Washington, DC.

“We are thrilled to welcome Krista to both the League and the credit union movement,” shared Robert Caverly, League Vice President of Advocacy and Outreach. “She brings a wealth of experience with her to this new role and is joining our organization at a perfect time as we already are preparing for the next legislative session.”

A West Coast native and experienced communicator, Simonis began her political career with a lobbying firm in Sacramento (CA) after earning her bachelor’s degree in Political Science from UC Riverside. Simonis later earned her master’s degree in Communications Studies from the University of Portland (OR) and joined the Oregon League of Conservation Voters (OLCV). During her tenure with OLCV, she managed digital communications and organized a non-partisan get-out-the-vote campaign.

“I am proud to join the Maine Credit Union League and build off my previous advocacy roles,” shared Simonis. “I’m a big believer in the values of credit unions, so I’m excited to get to know the members of the League and help advance the credit union movement in Maine.”

In addition to her political background, she is a regular performer with the improv comedy group, You Should Smile More. She also serves as a debate coach for Deering High School.
