Advocacy is a cornerstone of the credit union movement. As we often say, “If credit unions aren’t at the table, they’re on the table.”
Fortunately, Maine’s credit union movement is powered by passionate advocates who proudly champion the credit union difference to policymakers and decision-makers. They speak up—both in support and in opposition—on critical issues that shape our industry.
To honor these dedicated individuals, the League annually presents the Political Involvement Award to a credit union representative who demonstrates outstanding commitment to advocacy. At Elevate 2025, we were proud to announce that Joann Bisson, President/CEO at Oxford FCU, was the 2024 recipient.
As a League Board member, former League Board Chair, CULAC trustee, and a two-time chair of the League’s Governmental Affairs Committee, Bisson always made sure the League team had the support they needed to succeed. We are grateful for her years spent offering guidance and support on our Board and know her impact will still be felt as she steps away to focus on other important community initiatives.
We thank Joann for her unwavering dedication and tireless efforts to advance the credit union mission through advocacy—her leadership strengthens our movement and inspires others to get involved.
