It's Now Up To The Judges

This past week, your League submitted its entry for the national Desjardins Awards, as well as finalized the submission of the winners of the state Dora Maxwell, Louise Herring and Desjardins awards that were presented at your League's Annual Meeting this past May.  All of the entries are now in the hands of the judges, organized by the Credit Union National Association (CUNA), who will gather soon to determine the national award winners.

In addition to your League's Desjardins Financial Education Award entry, the eleven first-place entries from the state awards were submitted to CUNA by your League.  The credit unions that are representing Maine in the national competition in various asset levels are: Dora Maxwell - Casco FCU, New Dimensions FCU, PeoplesChoice CU, and Five County CU; Louise Herring - Community CU and Five County CU; Desjardins - (Youth) Community CU, Central Maine FCU, and Atlantic Regional FCU; (Adult) Community CU and Central Maine FCU.

Jon Paradise, VP of Governmental & Public Affairs for your League, said, "The awards will be judged early this fall, and the winners are usually notified by mid-fall.  Maine CUs have a long history of performing well against hundreds of entries in the national competition.  A Maine CU has received one or more of these national awards in twelve out of the past sixteen years.  It will be exciting to see how the Maine CUs competing this year do."

Paradise encouraged more Maine CUs to submit an entry(ies) in the state awards competition next year.  The entire entry process is now online, and the information about each of the Awards' criteria will be available in January 2016.

"It's about recognizing credit unions for activities and programs that they consider ordinary but are truly extraordinary in their impact, commitment and dedication to their communities and members.  I hope more Maine CUs will consider participating in the Awards program when it is announced early next year.  There is no cost to submit an entry in any of the categories, and the opportunity to have work and efforts acknowledged is well worth it," added Paradise.
