Holiday Meals for Mainers Returns for Another Season of Giving

As the holidays draw near, Maine Credit Unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger’s Holiday Meals for Mainers initiative is once again underway—and the need has never been greater. The government shutdown and delays in SNAP assistance mean more Maine families are struggling to keep food on the table and wondering how they’ll make it through the season.

Now in our 35th year, the Campaign for Ending Hunger has never stopped working to make sure no Mainer goes hungry. A meal is more than food—it’s comfort, dignity, and hope. Every $2 donated can help provide a meal for a family of four. Every dollar counts and every donation helps someone who might otherwise go without.

We’re asking for your credit union’s help to spread the word, inspire generosity, and make a tangible difference this holiday season. The campaign runs November 14 through December 27, with a special statewide push on Giving Tuesday, December 2.

This Giving Tuesday, we’re inviting credit unions and their members to help provide 3,500 meals for Mainers in need—a goal chosen in honor of the Campaign for Ending Hunger’s 35th anniversary.

The League will once again promote this initiative through earned and paid media, and across our social media channels. We encourage your credit union to help us amplify this effort locally in your branches, newsletters, and online. To make participation easy, we’ve provided ready-to-use graphics and sample messages. Please visit the League’s website for grab-and-go resources, including social media copy and graphics, a lobby poster, and coloring pages.

Let’s make this season a little brighter for Mainers facing hunger. When we come together—neighbors helping neighbors, People Helping People—we show what community truly means. A meal may seem small, but to someone in need, it can be the greatest gift of all.
