Hannaford Bag Program Helps Credit Unions Fight Hunger

Thanks to community support, Maine Credit Unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger received $206 from the Hannaford Fight Hunger Bag Program in August 2025. Two local stores—Westbrook and Buxton—chose our Campaign as their beneficiary, with $1 from every reusable bag sold going directly toward feeding people in need.

Missed out last month? You still have a chance to join in! Throughout September, Hannaford’s South Portland location will be selling bags to benefit our Campaign. And with a little luck, more Hannaford stores across Maine may select us before the year is over.

Since its launch, the Hannaford Helps Reusable Bag Program has supported 6,601 nonprofit organizations and donated more than $3.7 million to local communities. We are proud to be part of this impactful effort and deeply grateful for everyone who chooses to support hunger relief through the simple act of purchasing a bag.
