Lisbon Community FCU is proud to announce that the inaugural George Roy Community Grant has been awarded to Hanna Stevens, School Counselor at Lisbon Community School. She will use the $5,000 grant to create a student garden aimed at enhancing outdoor education and fostering a deeper connection to nature.
The garden project will allow students to participate in the planting, nurturing, and harvesting process, giving them the opportunity to observe firsthand how plants grow and develop. The hands-on experience will also help students learn about the importance of sustainability, responsibility, and community service. After the flowers bloom and the vegetables ripen, students will be able to share the fruits of their labor with others by donating the flowers to residents, while enjoying the vegetables they helped to grow.
“This is a life lesson,” shared Stevens. “I am thrilled the students will work hard, give back to others, spread kindness, and see the results.”
Lisbon Community School looks forward to seeing the positive impact the student garden will have on students, staff, and the greater community. The project promises to cultivate not only plants but also the skills, values, and lessons that will last a lifetime.
