Over the past several weeks, Gardiner FCU has donated approximately $23,000 to local food pantries and organizations that are providing meals to families. With schools closed and unemployment rising, this support comes at a time when the demand for food assistance is higher than normal.
“I spoke to a source at one pantry, who said they are seeing twice as many families,” said Kelly Marie, Marketing Coordinator at Gardiner FCU. “Another has seen the number of people increase four times over.”
Gardiner FCU distributed their Ending Hunger funds earlier than usual to help address the urgent need in their community. The credit union also provided support to the Gardiner Tiger Food Pantry and Good Shepherd Food Bank.
“We are not alone in our efforts to help our local families and food banks,”said Marie. “People who can help are stepping up and helping so many.”
Once its lobby reopens, Gardiner FCU plans to resume its Campaign for Ending Hunger fundraising. If members are interested in making a monetary donation to the Campaign now, they can do so through the credit union’s drive through or drop box.
