The Maine CU System lost two individuals with close ties to credit unions this past week with the passing of Carl McPherson, long-time CEO and former Chair of the League's Board; and Daisy Nolette, the wife of the late Normand Nolette, former President of Tricorp FCU and a member of the Maine CU League's Founders' Club.
McPherson served as long-time President/CEO of S.D. Warren FCU (now Evergreen CU), and served on the Maine CU League Board from 1983-1992 including Board Chair from 1987-1990. McPherson received the League President's Award for Outstanding League Volunteer in 1990. He retired in 1995.
Though not an employee or volunteer with a credit union, Daisy Nolette was actively involved as a result of her husband, Normand, who helped to organize a number of credit unions and was the President/CEO of Tricorp FCU until he suddenly passed away in 1995. After his death, Daisy remained involved in the CU Movement by attending various activities and events including the Norm Nolette Annual Golf Tournament, organized in his honor to support the Maine CUs' Campaign for Ending Hunger.
"Carl was a committed and active contributor to not only his own credit union but to Maine's credit unions as a League Director for nine years and provided leadership as Board Chair for three years. Daisy was proud of her connection to Maine's credit unions, and continued to stay in touch and keep Norm's memory and contributions to credit unions alive. Both individuals will be missed," reflected your League's President John Murphy.
