Five County CU Receives Matching Gift to Help The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital

Five County CU is thrilled to announce it is the recipient of a $3,000 Co-op Children’s Miracle Network Match grant. The donation will match funds raised from the credit union’s Skip-A-Pay program. This program was created in 2003 to provide members an opportunity to skip their December or January loan payments. The credit union provides a portion of the fees collected from this program to The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital (BBCH) at Maine Medical Center. Thanks to Co-op’s match, more money will be directed to the hospital to fulfill its mission to remain a cutting edge provider of pediatric medicine.

Jacob Thiboutot

“For kids like 8-year old Jacob Thiboutot from Brownfield (Maine), access to a world class children’s hospital in their ‘backyard’ made a lifesaving difference to his family,” shared Kate Richardson, Senior Philanthropy Manager at The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital. “At just 18 months old, doctors discovered a cantaloupe-size cancerous tumor in Jacob’s abdomen and began chemotherapy treatments that very same day. Jacob’s family will describe the hospital as a home away from home after a year and a half of treatments, appointments, and surgeries that were essential to his survival. Today, Jacob is living the healthy, thriving, LEGO-loving childhood that every kid deserves.”

She added, “Programs like Five County CU’s annual Skip-A-Pay program allow us to meet the needs of every family who comes to us for care, while also providing resources to address the unique social and emotional needs of hospitalized children. The BBCH remains incredibly grateful to be the annual beneficiary of Five County CU’s Skip-a-Pay program and could not be more thrilled to be the recipient of a Co-op Miracle Match this year to double Five County’s impact.”
