There is not a one-size fits all for financial education. On Wednesday, September 6, the Maine CU League's first-ever Financial Literacy Conference will cover teaching and providing financial education to various demographics. Registration is underway for the event, which takes place from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m., at the CU Service Center in Westbrook.
Presented by the Maine CU Financial Literacy Council, the conference begins with Mary Dyer of the Finance Authority of Maine (FAME), who will talk about some of the programs that FAME offers for financial education, especially for college students. Attendees will then be joined by Christopher Morris of the National Credit Union Foundation (NCUF), who will provide a national perspective on financial education, and discuss some of the recent initiatives and research that the Foundation has done.
After Morris, CUNA Mutual, the NCUF and the Maine CU Financial Literacy Council will present a hands-on Retire on Track Retirement Fair for all attendees. The fair is designed to have people think more carefully about the type of lifestyle they would like to pursue in retirement and then link it to their financial plan. Retire on Track is applicable to people of all ages, not just those nearing retirement. It is designed to not only help people adequately save for retirement but it encourages people to plan for all lifestyle aspects of their retirement. A retirement expert from CUNA Mutual will provide insight and debrief participants after the fair.
