Evergreen CU’s Riverside branch.
On January 1, 2026, Evergreen CU celebrated a major milestone: 75 years of serving the people and communities of southern Maine. Since opening its doors in 1951, Evergreen has been committed to expanding financial opportunity for families, individuals, and businesses across Maine’s six southernmost counties.
What began as the S.D. Warren CU in Westbrook was rooted in a simple mission—supporting the workers and families of the S.D. Warren Paper Mill. Over the decades, that mission grew alongside its membership. In 1999, the credit union established its headquarters on Riverside Street in Portland, just one mile from its original Westbrook branch, and adopted the name Evergreen CU—a reflection of its enduring commitment and expanding reach.
Today, Evergreen’s legacy is one of deep local roots and lasting relationships.
“Our history is rooted here in southern Maine,” said Jason Lindstrom, Evergreen CU President & CEO. “We wouldn’t be where we are without the Mainers who trust us with their financial lives.”
Seventy-five years since it began serving members, Evergreen CU continues to honor its past while looking ahead—steadfast in its purpose and proudly serving the community it has called home for generations.
Congratulations to the team at Evergreen CU for 75 dedicated years of service!
